Sumter Senior Services is a non-profit organization designated as the focal point for aging services in Sumter County for programs, services, information and advocacy for older adults. The mission is to provide opportunities for physical, mental, and emotional wellness which support independence and enrich the quality of life for older adults. 

Services include meal opportunities (home-delivered meals and group dining meals) and senior centers.  Low and no-cost services are available.  Volunteer opportunities (AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP) are available each weekday.   

We are an activity center for adults 50 years and up. The Lourie Center’s mission is to provide opportunities for older adults to remain physically fit, socially engaged, intellectually stimulated and independent.  The center is a part of Senior Resources, and offers a wide array of programs in exercise, disease-preventions, arts and culture, lifelong learning, and social activities designed to keep older adults active and healthy.  

We provide group dining, transportation to and from our centers, for those who can't drive. Home delivered hot and frozen meals to the homebound clients. We also provide home maker services for our elderly, 60 years of age or older as well as exercise and educational information on their health and nutrition. 

Waring Senior Center offers over 300 classes a month including fitness, wellness, creative arts, languages, dance, music, games, and so much more. The center houses a gym with cardio and strength machines and four outdoor pickleball courts. Everything at the senior center is dedicated to increasing opportunities as well as ways to engage in activities outside the senior center such as golf, dining, kayaking, theatre, and other activities. 

The center offers support groups for Alzheimer's caregivers, a grief support group which is led by the Roper St. Francis Healthcare Pastoral Care Department, and stress management support. 

The Waring Cafe offers a hot lunch three days a week. Prices range from $7 to $2 and must be ordered two days in advance. Meals are served dine-in or carry-out. 

The York County Council on Aging offers numerous services aimed at keeping the senior citizens of York and Chester counties living independently and productively.

Our goals of promoting health and wellness, and our coordination of key services have provided the priceless gift of independence for many seniors in York and Chester counties.
