    The SCRC provides information about respite to families and professionals, strives to educate family caregivers regarding the necessity of regular time off from their caregiving duties and advocates for state and federal policies which build and expand an accessible respite system. SCRC offers training to families and paid respite care providers, as well as caregiver coaching, respite information and resource referrals. Respite vouchers are also available to eligible families as funding is available.

Description of Organization

The mission of the SC Respite Coalition is to expand respite opportunities in South Carolina for families of loved ones with special needs.

The Coalition’s goals are to:

  • Educate the public and specific groups about the need for respite care.
  • Develop strategies to provide and improve respite services for families.
  • Provide support for families and providers through coordinated information resources. 

The SC Respite Coalition is the only entity in the state committed to addressing the needs for respite across the lifespan for all persons caring for a child or adult who has special needs. Lead organizations in the development of the Respite Coalition have been Family Connection of SC, Inc., the Center for Disability Resources at the USC School of Medicine, and the Institute for Families in Society at the University of South Carolina.
