    The Area Agency on Aging identifies the needs of seniors and disabled persons and existing services available. The Area Agency on Aging prepares a plan to meet these needs of the senior population. Whereas the ADRC will link the disabled person to the local resources available. The AAA and ADRC staff work with federal, state, and local officials, service providers, volunteers, and the private sector to encourage new services.     Lowcountry Food Bank serves more than 200,000 people who experience food insecurity every year through our solid relationships with 240+ partner agencies -- a network of food pantries, on-site meal programs, school programs, senior programs, veterans' groups, and shelters. We provide our partners with fresh fruits and vegetables, shelf-stable food, equipment, nutrition materials, and food safety training.

    Our mobile farmers market sources from hundreds of farmers and operates on a biweekly schedule and has stops throughout the Charleston area. The market offers a sliding scale pricing system and anyone paying with SNAP/EBT gets $15 free produce with a $5 purchase. 

     

    GroceryRx is a free 12-week long nutrition and cooking program with topics that vary each week. Eligibility criteria for a class is a positive screen for food insecurity and diagnosis of chronic, diet-related illness. While in class, participants receive fresh grocery deliveries to their home or via our mobile market. A physicians referral and recent lab work is required for participation.

    Respite Care Charleston is a nonprofit organization providing support and services for families affected by Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia.  Services include half-day memory care (respite), caregiver support groups, one-on-one caregiver consultations, education and referrals, and programs for those with mild cognitive impairment or early-stage dementia.  

    Many RCC services are offered at no cost, and scholarships are available to ensure no family is denied support due to financial constraints.

    To ensure accessibility, services are offered at several locations in Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, North Charleston, James Island and Johns Island.
